Thank you for helping Melbourne Business School make an impact in 2022

As we emerge from the pandemic, there's plenty of excitement as we embrace change and reconnect with the community in a big way.

2022, what a year!

A year when life returned to something like normal, or perhaps the new version of normal.

Energy levels at Melbourne Business School have been high all year, as they probably have for you too and many of our partner organisations.

There’s a real sense of urgency to make up for lost time and address the major challenges and opportunities that we all face as the world emerges from the global pandemic.

For us, that’s meant reconnecting with our community in person and online in a big way, including holding graduation celebrations for not one, not even two, but three years of classes after COVID-19.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in 2022 – but we're even prouder of the impact that our students, alumni and partners had on the community.

A milestone was the ten-year anniversary of the MURRA Indigenous Business Leadership Program and the extraordinary impact it has had on Indigenous communities across the country.

We also saw the success of Team Flexie, who became the first Australian group ever to reach the finals of the global Hult Prize with their idea to help people with a disability engage more fully in the workforce.

Two decades on from his time at the School, one of our alumni Sam Dharmapala spoke about his journey to provide meaningful work for the survivors of sex trafficking in the Philippines and about how business can play an important role in creating social change.

Business also has a role to play in tackling the challenges we face as a global community.

That was certainly the message from Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, when she visited the School this year.

It’s also the reason why one of the world’s most famous consultancy firms, Bain & Company, decided to partner with our Centre for Sustainability and Business.

We’re now training Bain consultants to become leaders on ESG issues, so that they can provide the best advice to their clients for a sustainable future.

Of course, planning for the future also means innovating and embracing change, and we've done a lot of that in 2022 – including launching the new Learning Innovation group that's responsible for creating inclusive, cutting-edge online experiences to make Melbourne Business School more accessible, to more people, than ever before.

Just a few weeks ago, we also announced the Institute for the Future of Business, which will bring industry and academia together to change the face of business education when it launches early next year.

We’re also planning to launch a new Social Purpose Centre to address some of the most pressing issues facing the community and the organisations that support it.

As you can see, there’s plenty of excitement on the horizon already for 2023.

But before we get there, we hope you take the time to rest, catch your breath, and spend some meaningful time with friends, family and loved ones over the holiday season.
