Sven Feldmann

Associate Professor of Economics

Sven Feldmann is Associate Professor of Economics at Melbourne Business School.

He teaches in the MBA, Senior Executive MBA, and Master of Business Analytics programs at MBS. Sven served as Associate Dean (Business Administration) from 2020–2022.

Sven received his PhD in Economics and Government from Harvard University. Before joining Melbourne Business School, he taught at Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) and at the University of Chicago. He has been a visiting professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, at INSEAD (Fontainebleau and Singapore campuses), and at the University of California Los Angeles's Anderson School of Management.

Sven’s research lies at the intersection of business and society, spanning information economics, game theory, institutional design, and political economics. It examines the economic and strategic drivers for decision-making in competitive environments, in business–government relations and in the corporate engagement with broader society. Sven’s work has been published in academic journals including the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Public Economics, Business and Economics, and the Scandinavian Journal of Economics. He is a CESIfo Research Fellow (Munich), National Fellow of the Hoover Institution (Stanford), and a Fulbright Scholar.

Sven has consulted for companies and public sector institutions in Australia including Rio Tinto, Frontier Economics, Freehills, and local government on issues including market access regulation, contract negotiations, pricing strategy, market entry, and market design.

Sven teaches Managerial Economics, Economics of Strategy, Managerial Ethics and the Business Environment, and Ethics in Data Analytics and supports students in immersive business experiences and in business case competitions.
